Privacy Policy and Your Data Rights

Legal By Declan Fraser Aug 18, 2026 1 article in section

Analytics run on our own server, with no advertising network, no retargeting pixel and nothing sold. The Privacy Act 1988 governs what we hold, and we hold almost nothing that identifies a reader.

What this site collects

Very little, and none of it identifies you by name.

We run first-party analytics on our own server rather than an external platform. It records which page was viewed, roughly how long the visit lasted, how far the page was scrolled, and whether an outbound link was clicked. No account is required to read anything here, and we do not ask for an email address.

What we do not do

  • No advertising network, no retargeting pixel, no data broker.
  • No selling, renting or sharing of visitor data with anyone.
  • No newsletter list, because there is no newsletter.
  • No attempt to identify individual readers from analytics records.

If you email us, we hold that correspondence to answer it and nothing else.

Cookies and local storage

A session cookie keeps the analytics count from double-recording a single visit. Browser storage may remember a preference such as an open menu state.

Blocking cookies in your browser does not break any page on this site. Everything here is readable with storage disabled.

Outbound links to the operator pass through our own redirect, which records that a click happened before forwarding. That record is a count, not a profile.

What happens after you arrive at the operator is governed by the operator’s own privacy policy, not this one. We have no visibility into anything you do there, and no access to any account you open.

Your rights under Australian privacy law

The Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles set out how personal information must be handled, and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner oversees them. (1)

Because this site holds almost no personal information, most requests are quick to answer. You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Write to the address in the footer and we will respond within a reasonable period. If you are unhappy with the response, the OAIC accepts complaints directly.

Retention and changes

Analytics records are kept in aggregate and are not tied to an identity, so there is nothing to attach to a person after the fact. Email correspondence is kept while a matter is open and removed afterwards.

If this policy changes materially, the change will appear on this page rather than in a silent update elsewhere.
